Umrah is the best way to regain religious and spiritual strength at any time of the year. Umrah is not obligatory in Islam. It is Sunnah of our beloved Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). The basic rites of Umrah are same for both men and women. But there are certain conditions highlighted in Shariyah for Islamic sisters, which are different from men.
Mahram in Umrah:
It is compulsory for Muslimah to be with Mahram whether she is going for Hajj or Umrah. It is also mandatory for Saudi Arabian Visa because Saudi government won’t give visa to any women without her Mahram.
Ihram for Muslim Sisters:
Muslim sisters should wear sewn cloths to cover her sat’ar. Her head must be cover. A Muslimah can wear gloves or socks but she cannot cover her face in the state of Ihram. So she must carry a hand fan or cardboard to cover her face or else she can wear a cap with veil. But keep in mind while using these caps that the cloth of veil must not touch her face. She must not wear any kind of makeup or any fragrance in the state of Ihram.
Tawaf for Muhrimah:
Men perform Ramal during 1st three rounds of Tawaf but it is prohibited for women. While performing Tawaf it is preferable for Islamic sisters to remain distant from Holy Kabaah. If someone menses start during the Tawaf, she has to discontinue her Tawaf and leave the premises of Holy Mosque. Since her Tawaf is incomplete she will perform her Tawaf and Sa’ee after cleanness from her menses.
Sa’ee for Islamic sisters:
Women should perform her Sa’ee in normal pace. It is not permissible for them to run between green lights of Safa and Marwah. Women should walk by the wall or along the railing to avoid the crowd of men. Islamic sisters must not ascend to far on Safa and Marwah.
If a woman starts menstruating after performing Tawaf she must perform Sa’ee. As cleanness is not a conditional requirement for Sa’ee. A women suffering from menses may also perform Sa’ee.
After completion of Sa’ee, men have to trim their hair or shave their head. But for Muslim sisters the rule is slightly different. They have to cut their entire or 1/4 part of hair only for the length of a finger nail. After Muharimah done with cutting her hairs, she will be free from the restrictions of Ihram.
May ALLAH accept our Ibadah and gives us a chance to visit his Holy House again and again. Aameen.
